Do you have an electric car or plug-in hybrid and are wondering how to charge it conveniently at home? You’ve come to the right place. In this article, we explain what to look for when choosing a home charging station and show you the best models available in Poland.

What is a wallbox and why should you have one?
A wallbox is a wall-mounted charging station installed in a garage or by a driveway. Unlike a standard 230V socket, a wallbox charges an electric car 3–10 times faster, depending on the device’s power.
For example, charging a car with a 60 kWh battery from a standard socket takes about 26 hours. An 11 kW wallbox does it in under 6 hours—overnight.
Benefits of having a wallbox at home:
- Charge overnight—leave in the morning with a full battery
- Safety—a dedicated electrical circuit with no risk of overloading
- Savings—charge at night on a cheaper electricity tariff
- Mobile app—control charging from your smartphone
- Increased property value
What should you look for when choosing a wallbox?
1. Charging power—7.4 kW, 11 kW, or 22 kW?
This is the most important specification. The wallbox’s power must match your car’s capabilities and your electrical installation.
- 7.4 kW (single-phase)—enough for most plug-in hybrids and many electric cars. Simple installation, lower cost. Charging a 60 kWh battery: ~8 hours.
- 11 kW (three-phase, 16 A)—a good choice for most electric cars. Requires a three-phase installation. Charging a 60 kWh battery: ~6 hours.
- 22 kW (three-phase, 32 A)—maximum AC power. Only worthwhile if your car can accept 22 kW (e.g. Renault Zoe, some BMW models). Most cars accept a maximum of 11 kW.
Tip: check your car’s manual for its maximum AC charging power—buying a wallbox with more power than your car can accept won’t speed up charging.
2. Connector—fixed cable or socket?
- Fixed cable (Mode 3)—more convenient and always ready to use. Type 2 is the standard in Europe.
- Type 2 socket—lets you connect different cables, offering flexibility if you have several cars from different manufacturers.
3. Connectivity and app
Modern wallboxes connect via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, or a mobile network (4G/eSIM). They let you:
- schedule charging (e.g. for nighttime only)
- monitor energy consumption
- manage multiple users (for businesses and car parks)
- integrate with solar panels (manage surplus PV energy)
4. Certifications and durability
Look for a wallbox with an IP54 rating or higher—this means full protection against rain and snow. This is important if you’re installing it outdoors.

How much does wallbox installation cost?
The device itself is only part of the cost. You can order installation of an AC charging station from us starting at PLN 1,845. The final price depends on:
- the distance from the electrical panel to the installation site (cable length and labor),
- how the cable is routed (drilling, wall penetrations, groundworks),
- whether protective devices in the electrical panel need replacing or adding,
- whether the station is mounted on a post instead of a wall.
The total cost (wallbox + installation) starts at around PLN 3,500 for a 22 kW wallbox with an app and around PLN 4,850 for an 11 kW wallbox with a cable and RFID. A portable charger with a CEE plug does not require installation if you already have an industrial socket.
Wallbox.pl offers a comprehensive service—we supply the device and arrange installation by a certified installer throughout Poland. Order installation or request a quote.
Do I need approval from the homeowners’ association?
If you live in an apartment block or a multi-family building, yes, you will usually need approval from the homeowners’ association or housing cooperative. However, the law does not allow them to ban installation outright—they can only set conditions.
We can help you prepare the documentation and communicate with the association. Find out more.
